ABOUT

Socialwork911 aims to disseminate information that translates research into clear and usable social work practice/policy to help organizations and practitioners provide services to individuals/families who are struggling with mental illness and life issues in a way that promote a diverse, just, and equitable society. In addition, direct services are provide to individuals to help them live a happy life, coping with mental illness and life struggles.

 

 

 

I have presented at various National and Local conferences, as well as, governmental and public groups. Interviewed by the Florida Sun- Sentinel as a content expert on hoarding. I represent the Florida National Association of Social Workers to the South Florida Hoarding Task Force sponsored by Nova Southeastern University. I am also a member on the Palm Beach County Task Force on Hoarding. I have published articles, written many training manuals and have been a book reviewer.

Prior to moving to Florida for 30 years, I worked for the Office of the Mayor for the City of New York. Holding various direct practice and management positions within Homeless Services (2 years direct clinical practice), Family Services (2 years direct clinical practice), Children's Services (2 years direct clinical practice), Legal Services, and Welfare Services (5 years direct clinical practice). For the past 13 years I have been a Senior Manager with the NYC Adult Protective Services (one year direct clinical practice). Some of my responsibilities included directing the training for 400 social workers and the development of an automated case management system. Some of the specific training and training material development I did focused on working with Hoarders, Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation, Bed Bug infestation and working with difficult to serve clients.

I also maintained a small clinical practice.

Lead presenter on Hoarding and the elderly at the Elder Abuse Conference, sponsored by the NYS Jewish Association for Services to the Aged.

I hold an MSW from the Hunter School of Social Work and PhD from the City University of New York/Madison University, am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Florida and New York. A Certified NYS Social Work Field Instructor for 13 years. I have also held faculty appointments at various schools of social work, including New York University, Adelphi University, Hunter College, Touro College, as well as, many Community Colleges.
